Cargo Hold - Firefly Class Transport
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The cargo bay stretches out, a little longer than it is wide. The walls angle outward, creating an impression of more space than is strictly available. Angular seams in the hull plates create a pattern against an otherwise utilitarian bulkhead.
Stairs rise, form a landing that creates an archway over the exit to the infirmary, and rise up to provide access to the upper corridors and the catwalks that lead to the shuttle ports. The cargo doors lead to a small airlock, where atmo can be pressurized before the brow flips down to let people disembark for the ground.
"I was thinking that we could explore either here a little more. Or perhaps we can look into some other venues." Nathan meets her eyes and his voice lowers. It would seem that dissembling isn't quite on his agenda. "Just a bruise, hon. That's all." Nathan and Mei Li stand on the stairs, Nathan on the bottom step and Mei Li a single step higher.
Mei Li's smile widens at that. One hand rests lightly against the man's waist and her free hand lifts to brush fingers over his cheek. "Greenleaf is very nice," she tells him warmly. "But we're not going to be heading anywhere until you let me look at your back, my dear."
Brian Dexter boards the ship from the outside.
Brian Dexter has arrived.
There's a knock at the airlock.
"Venues o wha?" Remy asks as he starts comming down the steps. "Dis would no happen to be anoder spy mission o yers would id Capitan, because I took a bulled da las time an dats one mo bulled den I like taking fo anyone."
Cole comes down the steps at a casual stroll. Seeing the pair of oafs blocking the way ahead of him, he quietly sits on the second to top step, waiting patiently for either of them to move.
Rush boards the ship from the outside.
Rush has arrived.
Nathan Roman smiles at Mei Li and backs off another few steps. "Oh, look. Someone is at the door." He offers the slightest smirk and turns to cross the room to the airlock. He thumbs the lock on the door to allow whomever to enter.
The cargo door opens and the figure of a uniformed man set against the last vestiges of daylight can be seen. "Captain Roman," comes the familiar voice of Brian Dexter. "I managed a bit more information gathering last night that was in response to my daily SITREP."
There's a ghost standing at the top of the stairs, and when Brian Dexter enters green eyes under a wide-brimmed hat narrow. It, of course, is the jumpy gunslinger Rush.
Mei Li gives a wry chuckle, her hands dropping to her sides as she shakes her head. "I'll not forget it, Nathan," she warns him. Glancing back to Remy, she moves forward, getting out of his and Cole's way, her cheeks flushing faintly. "Good afternoon," she murmurs to both of them before she sees Rush as well.
Remy nods back to Mei as he steps past her before stopping a few steps below her. The sound of the airlock opening and Bexter entering the ship draws his attention down into the cargo hold.
Cole comes down the steps, eyeing Mei Li and Dexter as he heads over to the outdoor spacesuit lockers and takes a seat.
"Relatively," the soldier admits, taking his own leave to enter the vessel proper. With a quick swipe of his hand, his box-squared field cover is removed from his head and placed into the small of his back, the bill tucked neatly into his trousers. "Perhaps something that can persuade you to take up this business offer instead of forcing me to find another willing volunteer."
"Brian," the small woman greets, offering him a small smile as she waits near the stairs but still out of the way. "News of the cure or the illness?"
Rush doesn't move or speak, he just keeps his hawk's eyes narrowed on Dex, arms crossed in front of him.
"Sounds good to me then. If you just want to hand whatever information you got to Mei Li, she can take a look over it." Nathan nods and reaches into his jacket again, "Were we going to discuss pay for the trip as well?"
Remy nods to Cole and smirks "Hey squird, yu fin anyting oud las nigh? O should I show yu a few card tricks firs to ged any enfo oud o yu?"
"Fuel and displacement pay as well as a somewhat negotiable bid at four-thousand credits is what I'm told to bring to the table," Dexter says mildly, eyes briefly rising to the catwalk to gaze up at Rush. With a half smirk, he glances away from the man towards Mei Li. "No written documentation. None that I can copy. It did come in my SITREP reply, afterall." His focus finds Nathan Roman again. "Airborne contaminent with a fifty-percent infection rate and rising. Left untreated for an incubation period of twelve days and you're more than likely going to die without proper attention. Non-fatal if treated with something called -" A concentrated effort to think, "- I don't know how to say it but the reference number is DIV-1832, DIV-23, and OAB-x812." He clears his throat. "But if it does go untreated, the death ain't pretty."
Mei Li inclines her head, her expression sober. "Then only necessary personel will leave the ship and they will be treated immediately," the doctor offers. "Do we know how large of a cargo space we're going to need? Can it be stored in one of the shuttles?" Her gaze flickers to Nathan. There seems to be no question that she's willing to take on the job if he is.
Brian Dexter closes his eyes for a split second, frustration crossing his features. "I have at my disposal a warship that can outspeed and outgun anything within the three nearest sectors. If a shuttle could take the amount of cargo, I wouldn't be here, Mei. As I said once already, there are doctors on the ground already. Primary mission is to get the cargo to its destination. Secondary is asking for volunteers. We don't need you to save these people. We just need /him/..." A thick finger jabs towards Nathan, "..to get the stuff there."
Nathan Roman pauses and takes a moment to light up his cigarette. "And we'll do that. Four fifty? Since you said it was negotiable, after all." He does cast a look to Cole.
Mei Li blushes faintly but her smile never wavers as she nods, not taking offense as Brian did rein himself in. Hands clasp and rest against her skirts, the woman falling silent and letting Nathan do his thing.
"Four twenty," The Warrant says, eyes scanning the cargo hold casually. "I'm guessing that's the most you've been paid for any one run in awhile."
Remy looks back up the stairs to Mei "Don worry Lily, 'm sur yu hav mo den enough people on dis ship to keep en good health. No reason to add da population o an entire colony to yer min if dare es already people on da groun dare to tread dem."
"Perhaps." Nathan allows. "Four twenty. Half before we leave, fuel and such. Half after."
Mei Li glances over at Remy, shaking her head. "Oh.. You keep me busy enough." There is amusement in her tone as she grins.
"Once the cargo's loaded, I can give half," Dexter nods firmly to Nathan. "So I can report tonight in the SITREP that you've accepted?"
"You can." Nathan says simply. "When will the cargo be arriving you think?"
[Cole heads up the steps again, leaving the adults to their detail work.]
