[Common Area - Firefly Class Transport]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A few stairs lead into this space. It is spacious, containing a kitchen area, eating area, and place to lounge all in one. Cabinets and alcoves provide room for storage.
Two support beams have been given an opportunity to hold a flat plank of a table between them, thus serving as a primary staging area for both preperation and delivery of the food to the table. Behind this sits another counter top, this one with several cooled storage units above it. To the left lies the sink itself.
Kenna arrives from Forward Passageway - Firefly Class Transport.
Kenna has arrived.
[Kenna]
-----
Ice blonde hair has been braided into an unruly mass with sporatic beads. Her face is angular, lips tinged light blue in what obviously must be flavored lip gloss. One eye is light blue, the other a hazel green. She wears a blue jump suit and scuffed up brown boots.
Cole is singing a song to himself as he cleans the kitchen cabinets with a washcloth. The song is a dirty sailor's tune to those who recognize it, but he carries the key very well and he's only humming.
Kenna walks in, huffing and grumbling. She freezes as she spots Cole, "Hey! What the heck are you doing on this ship, eh? Wha? Goody Goody Doc went and got herself a kid, didn't she? Geezus." She stalks over to the kitchen table.
Cole shrugs. "Not exactly her fault," he says. "I stowed away a few days ago. Kinda workin' it off now." He gestures to his rag. "You one of the passengers?"
"Nope." Kenna says proudly, "I'm the engineer. No rag-giddy passenger type." She eyes the boy a bit more. "Cleaning?"
Cole frowns slightly. "I thought Mister Jace was the engineer."
Kenna blinks. "Who?" Kenna looks angry now, "No one best be messing with my engines." She says, without waiting for Cole's response. She whirls on her heel and rushes back aft.
Kenna has left.
"Strange ship," Cole mutters, going back to work.
[Two minutes later...]
Jace arrives from Aft Passageway - Firefly Class Transport.
Jace has arrived.
Cole glances at Jace in confusion. "Hey. Uhh... there was some girl here just now. Said she was the engineer."
Jace shrugs at the boy as heads toward the food stores. "Cap'n's got two, kid. Though I think one of us is going... her I'm guessing."
"Oh," Cole answers, turning to go back to wiping the place down. "I guess that means he'll probably get rid of you one day... and me."
Jace hmphs, pulling out the necessaries for a sandwich and getting to work making it. "Want some'n'?" he asks. "Cap'n won't be getting rid of us. The other mech's just unreliable. Can't have that in our line, kid, mmm."
Mei Li arrives from Forward Passageway - Firefly Class Transport.
Mei Li has arrived.
Cole is wiping down the cabinets with a washcloth and talking to Jace. "I can understand that, I guess," he admits, in response to something the mechanic said.
Jace nods to the washcloth as he finishes up his sandwich making. "So you've decided to stay have you?" Eyes flicker up as Mei Li enters, receiving a nod. "Evenin', doc."
Mei Li makes her way from the forward passageway, a rarity for the doctor who typically tries to stay out of the goings on beyond the common area. "Mister Jace, Mister Cole." Spying the boy cleaning, she smiles brightly, though her gaze shifts briefly to Jace. "Captain Roman and I were just discussing a few details for the ship. There is one more passenger room available, Mister Cole. It's yours if you wish it. We've extra blankets and pillows and the like so putting you in a bed won't be a problem," she assures. "And it will keep Mister Jace's floor free as well as the ship's innards?"
Cole smirks. "I'll miss the junction," he suggests half-jokingly, "but I guess ya gotta do what's good for the ship sometimes. Thanks, uhh..." He frowns. "Y'know, I don't remember 'cept for Mister Jace what to call anyone. Do I call you Misses Li?"
Jace can't help but laugh a little at the boy's misconception. "Master, doc, Master Cole, not mister, yeah? 'E's just a lil' tike." Without even bothering to head to the table, he bites down into his makeshift meal. "An' I told you," he mumbles around a mouthful to Cole.
Mei Li inclines her head as she draws nearer to the table, her hands clasped before her. Jace gains a bit of a smirk at his correction. "Whatever he prefers," she assures. Jace's manners do cause her to look away, her focus resting on Cole. Her voice is soft when she speaks, but each word is succinct. "Doctor Cameron or Missus Cameron or just Mei Li. Two words, I know. But they both make up my first name. What can I say? My mother favored a bit of the unique. As to the others," she begins ticking them off on her fingers. "Captain Roman. Mister Nguyen, our pilot, likes to be called Jax. Anastasia prefers Ani. Mister Rush is alright with just being Rush, but you should wait until he tells you so before you address him as such." A breath is taken and she continues. "Miss Spider likes just Spider. Mister Dravis is.. well Mister Dravis. Then there's Mister Valsh and Mister Remy though I believe he prefers just Remy. And then there's Kenna." Her nose crinkles a little in distaste, her tone implying the child can just forget about her.
Cole nods solemnly. "I think I met Kenna," he admits, his voice carrying the same distaste. He looks to Jace. "I don't get it, though. Master? Why would she be /my/ slave, those people after me said they wanted me to be a slave myself."
Jace laughs and plutters, sending a spray of half eaten sandwich. He manages to swallow the rest and wipe his mouth. "'Scuse me," he mumbles. "It's just a title, kid. Same as Mister, but for lil'ns like you, yeah."
Mei Li smirks at Cole's response to having met Kenna. At his question, she arches a brow. Her lips quiver with mirth as she tries to hold back a chuckle. Jace's apology is met with a nod as is his explanation. "In more formal societies children are given the title of Master, yes. Though females are still called Miss. What do you prefer?" she asks the child.
"Heh, 'Master'," Cole repeats, saying the word seductively, as if flirting with the power of it's other connotation. But the playful moment passes and he shakes his head. "I think Mister is better, if it has to be anything at all. I wanna be just like everyone else."
[The trio continues to converse about trivial things into the night.]
